My good friend Asger invited me to go pike fishing on his favorite lake.
I accepted, naturally.
The days before had been rough and cold, but we were lucky enough to choose the one single day that brought some mild weather and a calm evening and night.
I fished fly only, Asger fished both spinner and bait. Asger got a lot of small perch, a large pike which he lost plus one smaller 1.5 kilo specimen. I lost one in the 1 kilo range - which gnawed over my much-too-thin leader - and landed one in the same range. My first two pike ever on the fly.
The night was beautiful beyond belief. At a certain point just around sunset there were both mayflies and stoneflies hatching all over the lake, and in the shadow of the trees we could see rises - probably from rudd or roach. On the way back round midnight we trolled for pike perch with both fly and wobbler... but to no avail.
These pictures were all grabbed from a digital video I filmed that evening. The video is long gone, I'm afraid.
