Leaders for fishing for salmon or seatrout in a current, typically down and across and mending. Also useful for some types of ocean fishing like Baltic seatrout.
Aubert/Bellemare/Bilodeau
7 variations- A fairly light salmon leader from the Canadian book Saumon Atlantique by Gilles Aubert, André Bellemare and Gérard Bilodeau.
Jonas Erbs Salmon
17 variations- A simple and straightforward salmon leader. Provided by Danish Jonas Erbs. Based on A formula originally - and somewhat reluctantly - shared with Jonas by the late Per Carlsen. Can be tied with mono as well as fluorocarbon.
Salmon, Sea Trout, Dead Drift
21 variations- This particular leader has been specifically modified for seatrout fishing: a 3X tippet behind a 2X tippet.
If a 3X is to limp, remove and use the 2X in its place.
This leader is best for smaller flies, light winds, clear waters or picky fish.
*NOT* a good leader for windy conditions.
Standard Salmon and Sea Trout
36 variations- This particular leader has been specifically modified for seatrout fishing: a 3X tippet following a 2X tippet.
If a 3X is too limp, remove it and use the 2X in its place.
Large diameter, long butt section, rapid mid-taper and short tippet region will turn over flies well [base formula: 50%-25%-25%]
A good leader for seatrout fishing.
Steelhead
5 variations- Steelhead leader adapted from Chris Parsons. Also suitable for light two hand rods.
Steelhead leader
5 variations- A sturdy leader designed for steelhead fishing with fairly large flies. Suitable for rods in the 8-9-10 weight range - including switch and two hand rods. Simply extend the leader to a rod length or more.
