Farkas' doubles

I get regular mails from Italian master salmon fly tyer Stefano Farkas. A couple of his recent flies were special.

I get regular mails from Italian master salmon fly tyer Stefano Farkas, and always marvel at his huge, full dressed salmon flies. Stefano ties most of his flies after traditional pattern descriptions, but also sometimes experiments, like in these "doubles" from one of his recent mails.

Hi Martin,
I hope to find you well.
Here in Elba Island, where I live, we had an unusually bad weather, and so I was more free from my work, and I have been able to tie: as I think you know, I still am a wine producer since many years, actually from 1974 when I was only 23 years old.
This work occupies the large part of my time.

Well, the first fly I send you this time is Traherne's Gitana while the other two are a "Double Gitana" and a "Double Phoebus", inspired by the original patterns.
Perhaps you will find them a little strange, but I hope you will appreciate my work.
Last thing: the blue in the wings of the regular Gitana are not of the right color in the photo. This because with blue macaw, the result in the photo depends on the position of the camera to, and will be "cangiante" as we say - meaning changing.

OK, that's all.
Kind regards
Stefano

As always my plan was to publish Stafano's images and the mail, but I was busy with many other things: visitors from the US, Easter and much else, and Stefano obviously became impatient and wrote me a few weeks later:

Perhaps you didn't like the latest flies I sent to you: too strange?

Here is a classic from the great Traherne, the Johann Sebastian Bach – or better – the Shakespeare of classic salmon flies.

The Evening Star tied on a 9/0 Harrison & Bartleet hook by Ron Reynold.

I hope you like it.

I like them all, of course! Here they all are for everybody else to like too.

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
