Barry's Biography

Born in 1953 and have been tying flies since I was 14. Started out spin fishing and became interested in fly fishing and tying through a childhood friend. I was given a Herters Manual and taught myself. I met a man named Reg Denny who ran a flytying shop in Edmonton and sat in on one of the courses he was teaching at the time. He asked me after three classes if I would be interested in assisting him and there began 25 years of teaching and a lifelong friendship. I became the tyer for the shop as well. I always liked tying any of the classic flies but especially liked the classic streamers. Because of this I met what are now two fishing partners that used these patterns in Saskatchewan and was invited to accompany them on their yearly trip, that was 28 years ago and still continues today. I also became the tyer for the lodge in Sask and so now had a outlet for some of my flies, also pays for what has become 3 weeks of fishing each year. About 3 years ago I found the streamerlist and finally found a place where other people shared my interest. Because of this I was able to finally get all of the things that one needs to tie proper streamers. In western Canada it is hard to even get the right hooks. I have been married 37 years and have a son and daughter both of whom are fly fishing and fly tying so the teaching continues .

Having fished with Barry for 28 years, I have admired his passion for fly tying and his innovative creations.
Not only are his Streamers exquisite, but they catch trophy
Trout. Keep them coming Barry.

Nice looking fly. You better put a lock on your fly bags as well as your cabin come the end of Sept or you could be missing some of your recent ties. We'll have to see if the big Browns like this fly as much as I do.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
