Cleaning the fly line

How often do you clean your fly line? Once a year, once every 2 years?
Probably not often enough!
I recommend that you clean you fly line 3 or 4 times a day!
On the clean Cape Streams twice a day is OK. You will be surprised on how dirty your fly line can be and how much that dirt affects your casting and the shooting of a line out of the guides. I keep a little bank plastic bag, with a Nylon suede cloth in my fly vest. (why nylon, cotton will rot much easier if it is damp in your fly vest.) On the little piece of cloth I have 3 or 4 drops of Sunlight liquid and before I start to fish I pull the first 10 or 15 meters of fly line thru the cloth. And during the day another couple of times. It takes 30 seconds or maybe a minute, but it adds a lot of fishing pleasure minutes to my day.
Casting is easier, crisper and more accurate.
And it floats better as well.

Since you got this far …

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
