Allan is a Danish fly fisher and tyer who loves to fish for large sea run browns in the Danish river Karup.
Professionally I work for the Danish Agrifish Agency. In my spare time, apart from fly fishing as much as possible and tying flies, I do a lot of volunteer work for AHSF, which is a local angler's association with top water by the River Karup.
I started out as an avid brown trout angler, in the many small local creeks near my hometown. As I got older, I redirected my main effort with my fly rod to the coastline of Funen and the Southern part of Jutland, in pursuit of the fantastic coastal sea trout.
I first visited the River Karup in the late summer 1998, and I immediately lost my heart to the beautiful surroundings and the huge sea run trout of the river.
I have traveled and fished elsewhere throughout the years, and I loved experiencing fishing for the grayling and brown trout of Swedish Lapland, or the windblown and mind blowing trout fishery of Argentinean and Chilean Patagonia.
I do however still prefer to call the summer hunt for huge sea run trout in River Karup, the “one true love” of my fly fishing life. The fishing is hard, a lot of it is done by night, the riverbed provides challenging conditions, and the fish (especially the larger ones) are very shy. However, when you do get that one big dream of a sea run... well, that does it for me.
Do come by and visit the River Karup some time. You may not catch a fish here on you first visit, but you are at risk of obtaining an obsession to do so!
Tight lines, Allan Nørskov Johansen
