What a great day out fishing with Gar who will be volunteering with me to help out injured veterans learn how to fly fish. The course we took was through the Texas parks and wildlife, and it was to get certified as an instructor through the state. What a great course, and resource. Texas parks and wildlife really does have a lot of great opportunities for people to learn to fish and hunt, and they offer lots of other outdoor resources. One of those resources was the Blanco river state park. A beautiful park that has easy access, and decent fishing. I have fished it before a few times, and even caught one of the largest bass Ive ever caught on the fly here in Texas, at the same spots we were fishing.
The park not only has good fishing, but also some nice tables, bbq pits, bathrooms, camp sites and more. It's a great place to bring the family for weekend outings, or just come like we did to do a little easy fishing and have some fun. Texas has become a great place to fly fish over the years, with many warm water streams and creeks to try for bass, sunfish and a native cichlid called the Rio Cichlid. You can even catch catfish, carp and even trout in some places here in South Texas.
