Bloody Butcher

Here we will be tying the fly Bloody Butcher by mr. Moon. The fly is a great option for both stream and lake fishing. The fly catches both brown trout, arctic char and sea run trout. The Bloody Butcher is a classic winged pattern over 150 years old , one of the Butcher series, said to have been invented by Moon and Jewhurst and originally called Moon's fly until about 1838. Commonly used in the middle or on the point of a wet fly cast on both rivers, lochs and lakes. Works out excellent here in Iceland for arctic char in places that have brackish water like Hraunsfjörður and some other places as well. The Bloody Butcher is an excellent Seatrout pattern in larger sizes, even tied up as a streamer on longer legged hook 2X - 3X. The story of the Bloody Butcher is that it comes from the Butcher's family, invented in 1836, well over 150 years ago in Turnbridge Wells, England. Originally named Moon's Fly after it's originator Mr. Moon. But Mr. Moon was a local butcher and designed and tied the fly to represent his trade. The fact that this pattern is still in use for sea trout in the UK as well as on still waters and rivers all over is a testament to its effectiveness! The Bloody Butcher requires a middle range tying skills, specially the wing of it some can find a little challenge to be satisfied with it. It is indeed a pattern that's totally worth keeping in your box when you go out fishing.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
