Clouser Minnows are some of the most popular and commonly fished streamers ever created, and for good reason. They sink quickly, are easy to cast due to their streamline profile, and perfectly represent small darting baitfish. Mr. Bob Clouser was the original tier of this, and according to google, he developed the fly to fish deep holes for smallmouth. However quickly people started realizing their potential in fishing other species. All of the bass species will eat a clouser, as well as trout, and many saltwater species as well. Ive caught redfish and speckled trout on the clouser, stripped bass, even bluegill. They can pretty much catch anything that likes to eat small baitfish.
These sink quickly for the amount of weight needed. For instance you can even tie them with the light beed chain eyes, but if you put lead eyes on their, you will get a fly that sinks incredibly fast, and get down into holes that some other flies might not be able to reach. They work great in fast moving rivers in which you want to get down, but also work wonders in lakes or the ocean. Dead drift them, bounce them off the bottom, swim them in a darting motion, many retrieves are possible.
