Crack Crab

The redfish crack is one of the go to patterns I fish with down in the gulf of Texas for fishing redfish. I think of it more of a shrimp imitation, and sometimes we do find redfish munching on crabs down there, so I decided to try and make a crab version of this fly. This is what I came up with. It works well and did land me a red the last time I went down and fished with it. There are little fiddler crabs all over the shore in the summer months and the reds just love eating them.

The best part of this fly is, it doesn't hold much water and is very small. I didnt add a lot of weight for a couple reasons, I didnt want there to be a big splash when it hit the water so it wont scare the reds, and I wanted it to cast easily. However I did want it to sit on the bottom with the hook point up, so if you bend the hook eye up, and tie the dumbbells in underneath the bend, you can achieve that. Best of all the hook eye bent up causes the front to lift up when you lightly tug on the line, giving a defensive crab motion to the fly that gets the reds to go crazy.

If you want to make your own brush for this, here is a tutorial I did on this exact brush. https://youtu.be/DiQfoLOBOPQ

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
