The Global FlyFisher has recently been updated to a new publishing system, and there may be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.

Number 3a in the pattern list. Dark Peacock and Black Red Hackle.

Body: dark peacock herl
Rib: Gold twist
Hackle: Black Red. I interpret this as "furnace".

The hackle I use here comes from a small breeder in Michigan named Jordan Kerby. His birds provide a wide range of hackles from the smallest cape feathers for dry flies to the larger ones perfect for stiff hackle wets. You can contact and find Kerby Hackle on Facebook.

What I love about his hackle for the "reds" is how they have a great shine and the back side is not so washed out. The red-leaning family of colors in roosters always has a back side that is lighter or lacks color...a genetic trait in the original fowl that continues in all lines I have seen. In the Whiting grades I can afford the color in the reds is very washed out on the back.

3b is only different in the body material which is hair from a Devonshire cow which has a dark purplish brown color to it. The dark peacock does an amazing job of looking very close and that is why I think he offers it as A and B.

My video for IIIb is here:

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
