Cutcliffe XII

No comments yet

This is pattern number 12. Red cow, Light blue hackle, Woodcock Wing

Thread: primrose silk
Body: Red cow hair - dyed for me
Hackle: light blue
Wing: Woodcock

I did this in the video with a folded wing that I divided with and X wrap. One side blew up and would not remarry. I tried it a few times different ways off camera and a wing always broke up. When fishing this fly the wings would of course end up that way anyhow. So I think if you fish this pattern that is the way to tie it.

I am doing this videos as I tie a complete collection of Cutcliffe's patterns for a display that will not be fished, so in the end for the collection I tied in matching slips.

We do not know how Cutcliffe did it and so many methods are possible.

Enjoy!

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
