Gray Nymph

No comments yet

Hello all...we are going to tie one of my friend Carl's favorite "all purpose" nymph pattern. This fly is always on point when he fished a 3 fly cast of flies.

The pattern details come from Terry Hellekson's "Popular Fly Patterns".

Hook: Mustad 3906 or similar sizes 6-12...Carl says I really should do some 12s as locally I tend to stick to 14s as the biggest...
Thread: Gray
Tail: Grizzly hackle fibers
Body: Muskrat fur with guard hairs left in. The dubbing should be picked out to give a buggy look.
Hackle: Soft grizzly hen hackle.

Carl does these unweighted and weighted with lead free wraps. The ones weighted he uses red thread at the head to identify them in his box. Great idea Carl!

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
