There are many moose mane body flies out there. When I first started tying I was intrigued by using two hairs to make a segmented body and at the time I was mostly into Tenkara so I did the "famous" kebari style of a sakasa with moose mane. The fly killed and I tied it poorly. Later, as fly tying took on a life of its own...I moved onto other patterns and forgot about this one until recently I was advertised on YouTube a pattern with this body so I decided to add it to my "journal" (channel).
In this video, I tie the pattern with a dubbed thorax, tail and "jun" hackle. You can of course eliminate the tail, sakasa the hackle, use a stiff hackle or other soft hackle. The "mane" (lol) point is how to make the body.
Since it is M oose M ane...I figure the family of patterns could be classified under M&M's - which are delicious.
