Hot Bead Soft Backed Baetis Nymph
Learn to tie Dave Gamet's Hot Bead Soft Backed Baetis Nymph. This is a proven pattern here on our Black Hills trout streams and on the Bighorn River. Thanks for watching!
Last Chance CDC Baetis Cripple
Rene Harrop's fly patterns were developed with an experienced eye for detail. Proven on the Henry's Fork, one of the most demanding trout fisheries in the country.
Yellow Bellied Baetis
This is an extremely easy fly to tie, but for the past year it has been a top producer for me. I use the yellow bellied baetis as a dropper below another nymph.
Smoke Jumper
The Smoke Jumper is an emerger pattern that we first learned of from fishing the Bighorn River in Montana.
Barr's Tungteaser Nymph
Barr's Tung Teaser is an excellent all purpose nymph from John Barr. This pattern has become a staple in my box and the bins at the shop.
Hans' Cricket
Cricket Patterns have been my most productive terrestrial flies for big fish. This cricket pattern features sili-legs, a material that has tremendous movement in the water. Tie in sizes 8-12.
Sparkle Dun
The Sparkle Dun, a comparadun style dry fly, is an extremely versatile pattern for imitating mayfly duns.
Foam Beetle
The foam beetle fly pattern is easy to tie, but remains one of my top producers during the summer months. Trout love to eat beetles (and ants) that are blown into the water.
Firebead Soft Hackle Sowbug
This is a pattern that some crafty fly tier on the Bighorn River came up with. It works like hotcakes in the spring, especially on tailwaters like the Bighorn.
Ultra Violet Baetis
An epoxy back mayfly nymph imitation. The flashback on this nymph is made from Hareline Dubbin's Purple Haze Holographic Fibers. An excellent nymph to imitate Baetis mayflies.
Deep Purple Nymph
This simple to tie nymph has held a spot in my fly box for the last 3 seasons. Purple flies work extremely well in certain situations.
Egan's Rainbow Warrior
Lance Egan's Rainbow Warrior is an effective, easy to tie nymph pattern. Learn to tie this versatile pattern in this video from Dakota Angler & Outfitter.
The Stillborn Midge
This pattern is based on a Rene Harrop pattern. This version features an antron shuck and a foam back. It is effective for selective fish feeding on midges. My favorite colors are gray and cream.
Skullp-Zilla Streamer
The Scullpzilla Streamer from Solitude Flies has tons of movement in the water and it drives brown trout crazy. This has been one of our most effective streamers over the past two seasons.
Pheasant Tail Midge Pupa
I can't recall where I first came across this simple pattern, but it has been very effective for selective fish feeding on midge pupa in the surface film.
Rainbow Czech Nymph
This is a straight forward czech nymph tying sequence, nothing earth shattering. Weight and body taper are formed by lead tape.
RS2
The RS2 is a proven pattern. Time after time it fools picky fish. Luckily for fly tiers, it isn't too tough of a fly to tie.
Shuttlecock Buzzer
This pattern is based on the Shuttlecock Buzzer patterns I have seen published in Czech books and websites.
CDC Klinkhammer
This is a twist on the original Klinkhammer Special. Both the post and hackle are made from CDC. This pattern sits nicely on the water's surface.
Pearl Core Cased Caddis
This is a cased caddis larva pattern tied in the Czech style. This nymph is tied on a jig hook with a slotted tungsten bead that causes it to bounce along the bottom with the hook point riding up.
Chewee Bloodworm
Bloodworms are extremely effective flies. They work well year round on most trout streams I fish. In the winter and spring months they account for a good share of the trout I catch.
Czeched Out Hare's Ear
This soft hackled Hare's Ear pattern, tied on a jig style hook, is effective and quick fly to tie.
Pike Fly
This is a simple, easy to tie fly for pike. I first saw this fly in an article by C Boyd Pfeiffer in Northwest Fly Fishing. The Body Fur makes a full and durable body.
Chewee Cranefly Larva
Craneflies are under represented in most fly angler's boxes. In my local streams cranefly larva are incredibly effective, especially in the spring when water flows rise.

Yes, this is a trick question and easy to answer - it's g!
We ask it because spam bots are too stupid to answer correctly, while humans are not.
