Making Orkney Peach Dubbing
As promised here's the video of how to prepare your own Orkney peach dubbing. The process is pretty easy and you can experiment with other colours or dubbing ingredients; this is how I prepare the fl...
Watten Warrior
Although it hails from Loch Watten in Caithness, the Watten Warrior is effective anywhere you're fishing wets for browns.
Yellow Tip
Billy Quail's yellow tip is a simple but very effective little fly for calmer conditions. Most effective in smaller sizes, it fishes particularly well near the surface when fish are on midges or small...
Doobry
The Doobry is an excellent bumble style attractor pattern that is loved by both wild and stocked fish. Certainly it should be in your box if fishing the lochs of Western Scotland.
Orkney Peach Muddler
Fished on top dropper or on the point this fly a great option for drawing fish to your team and is a fantastic taker of fish both wild and stocked.
Lethal Weapon
Rab Adam tied this fly for Ayrshire's reservoirs, but it certainly works well further afield. To support my channel and enter the giveaways head to https://www.patreon.com/flickingfeathers and become ...
Soldier Palmer (fluoro variant)
The Soldier Palmer is a well known traditional wet fly, but not one I'm particularly fond of. However, I have found this fluorescent version with a brushed dubbing body to be more effective and worth...
Near Perfect Buzzer
Another of Stan Headley's flies, the near perfect buzzer is an excellent chironomid imitation for loch style fishing.
Irishman's Claret
More compact than a dabbler but offering a heavier form than a bumble, the Irishman's Claret is a nice wet fly pattern for the top dropper that fishes best in a decent wave.
Pudding House
This traditional Welsh wet fly works well in a sedge hatch or as a more general prospecting fly. It's not particularly flashy or bright, but it certainly looks like food.
Blootch
George Barron's Blootch is a lovely modern traditional wet. It offers a more compact form than the bumble with lots of movement in the palmered hen hackles.
Blae, Black & Orange
This little winged wet is a great choice anywhere you find heather fly falling on the water. To support my channel and enter the giveaways head to https://www.patreon.com/flickingfeathers and become a...
T&S Nymph
The T&S nymph was published by Trout & Salmon magazine sometime in the 1990s and although it's fallen from favour in recent years it is a good taker of fish in both rivers and stillwaters.
Triangle Bug
Step by step instructions for a highly effective surface fly for bass and panfish.
Materials used
Hook: Your preferred 2x long model size 6-12

Machair Claret
The Machair Claret is anothe of John Kennedy's excellent wet fly patterns. It's a good choice for brown trout, seatrout and salmon in the lochs of Scotland's Western Isles and further afield.
Hot Spot Cruncher
Here's a simple, effective cruncher pattern that is well worth tying, as it works well either fished as a nymph or as a wet fly.
Blushing Buzzer
Stan Headley's Blushing Buzzer is a fantastic chironomid imitation for loch style fishing. It can be used like a wet fly or nymph and is deadly in a black buzzer hatch.
Brown Ostrich Nymph
The Ostrich Nymph is a classic suggestive pattern that has falen from popularity somewhat-it shouldn't have! It can be tied in a range of sizes and colours to suit a variety of situations.
Orange Bomber
The Bomber is another great dry fly for Atlantic salmon and works both skated or dead drift depending on the location and mood of the fish.
Bead Butt AKA Jennifer Lopez
The Bead Butt or Jennifer Lopez is a great little bug for panfish like bluegill/crappie & red ear, that also works for carp, bass and more. It should be in every warm water fly box.
Cascade
The Cascade is a fantastic fly from Ally Gowans that has probably overtaken the Ally's Shrimp in popularity across Scotland and beyond. It's a real confidence fly.
Green Machine
The green machine is a popular Canadian dry fly for salmon that has travels well and has taken good fish in Russia, Scotland and Scandanavia too.
Oystercatcher
The Oystercatcher taking inspiration from the bird,is a nice modern hair wing colour combination that has proven effective in Scotland and Scandinavia.
Squid Head Billfish Fly
This is a different take on the standard billfish tube fly. The Squid heads are from Ron Blair in Canada who has had some good results in testing them in South America.
