PMX (parachute madam X)

No comments yet

The Parachute Madam-X, or PMX for short is a wonderful little dry fly that mimics a stonefly, salmonfly, or hopper really well!  Now with the name, you would think it is just a Madam-X with a parachute post, but it is tied quite a bit differently than the simple madam x.  In fact it's not very easy at all to tie, but it makes up that difficulty and complexity with an extremely buoyant, very effective fly that is one of my favorite flies to fish.  Not only is it very effective, but it is extremely beautiful!  One of the prettiest flies out there, besides some of those salmon streamers of course.

The buoyancy of these flies is no joke.  These things can hold up some of the heaviest nymphs out there, and without any foam!  The combination of all that deer hair, and parachute post, make this a great indicator type fly for dry dropper style fishing.  The post can be tied with brighter materials also if you need to be able to see it even easier in low light conditions.

Make sure you check out my sponsor Risen Fly.  They have amazing deals on hooks and beads, but also sell some of the best fly rods Ive ever used, and at a price that is very reasonable.  With the cost of fly fishing going up every year, it's refreshing to find great quality gear at prices we can all afford.  Best off they are offering all of you a discount just for being my subscriber. So go to www.risenfly.com and type in McFly at checkout for 15% off your first order with them.

Also dont forget to pick up one of my fly boxes.  I have both magnetic backed and silicone backed, if these sell well I plan on getting more styles as well and maybe even bringing back the shirts that everyone loved years ago.  Check out my amazon store front to pick up the boxes.  - www.amazon.com/shops/McFlyAngler

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
