Red Hackle or Soldier Palmer

Perhaps one of the oldest patterns on earth. Mary Orvis Marbury leads off her 1892 book on the history of flies with this pattern that has spawned so many variations.

Hook - wet fly hook of your choice. Here Daiichi 1560 sz 10
Thread: uni black 8/0
Rib: Black floss
Body: Red Wool
Hackle: Brown rooster

Two methods for the hackle. Standard and Palmered. Because of the “red coat” in Britain the fly was called Soldier Palmer.
