Panfish flies

I went fishing with my new Risen 3wt fly rod. The Genesis rod and new Armor 2 reel. Great setup for under $200! This thing performed wonderfully on the bass, sunfish and Rio Grand cichlids! Guys, two really nice rio's this trip, and hooked another that got off. This was a fun trip no doubt. However it started very frustrating. I didn't catch much the first hour of the trip and neither did Paul. We both struggled to catch anything, but then the fishing turned on quickly. At around 9am we started getting hits, and did until we left. Seemed like the fish were sleeping in. HAHA.

Lepomis auritus, the redbreast sunfish, does not receive the front-page press of its cousins the bluegill, the crappie, and the black bass. This species deserves increased specific attention, though, especially from fly anglers who prefer to fish flowing water, because the redbreast is the stream sunfish.

I purchased a copy of Skip Morris' book on tying flys for bass and panfish and another of his books on foam flies. His books are excellent and I recommend them above all others for beginning tyers. The pictures and instructions are superb!
