Best way to tie a wooly bugger?

10,000 videos!

The wooly bugger is one of the most versatile and widely used streamer patterns ever created. Because of this, multiple ways of tying it have evolved. Today I am demonstrating the two most popular ways, and you can decide which you find the best. The first way is by far the quickest and easiest way, however I do find that it can occasionally come undone and therefor is not as durable. The 2nd way is the most durable that I have used, however it takes a bit longer to tie. Please let me know which ways you like best, and tell me what your favorite is.

woolly bugger...

Good evening,

And why not trying that one, with no chenille:

1- fix the brass/copper wire at the bend;
2- fix the marabou;
3- secure the strands of the crystal flash;
4- twist the marabou feather and wrap it around the shank;
5- fix the hackle at the head like in the video and then turn it around the body (they must cross at 45°);
6- finish as in the video, ie, secure the hackle withe the wire.

This will create a more lively streamer than with the chenille, and you do not waste your marabou.

All the best,

Raphael

Lots and lots of different...

Lots and lots of different ways and variations to this fly. I chose the two most popular. As this version you suggest is a great option, it’s not the most common kind.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
