#18 The Ref - Dwayne Miller

Tied by: Dwayne Miller
Originated by: Duane Vigue

Hook: Mustad 3907A
Thread: Black
Tag: Flat silver tinsel
Tail: Guinea hen fibers
Body: Black floss
Rib: Embossed silver tinsel
Belly: White bucktail followed by black bucktail
Throat: Red schlappen
Wing: Two black hackles flanked by two white hackles
Shoulder: Guinea hen
Eyes: Jungle cock
Head: Black

Notes: This pattern looks wonderful on the old Mustad 3907 hook. This is a pattern developed by Duane Vigue for the Art Of Angling Journal. The black and whites (referee colors) offer a hi-vis target for landlocked salmon. It was designed to be fished in the hot summer weather where Duane had success using the black and white colored streamers. It works well in just about any weather as long as the water is warm and the fish are sight feeding.

It does look pretty great. Duane Vigue has a ton of patterns that used to be posted on his site, but most are gone now. They are all a little tough to tie as well because of the materials and colors usually called for. Some wonderful looking smelts and attractors in there.

Since you got this far …

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
