#62 Dusky Smelt - Darren MacEachern

Tied by: Darren MacEachern
Originated by: Bert Quimby
Sources: Streamer Fly Tying and Fishing - Bates Pg. 265

Hook: Gaelic Supreme Mike Martinek hook
Thread: Black
Tag: Silver flat tinsel
Body: Black or red floss
Belly: Peacock herl and white bucktail both as long as the wing
Throat: Golden pheasant crest curving upward (not included on later streamers)
Wing: 4 grizzly (Plymouth Rock) hackles with strong barring
Eyes: Jungle cock
Head: Black

Notes: The Dusty Streamer has an early and a late dressing as well as a related pattern, the Dusty Streamer #2. The earlier dressing had a red silk body and later version were switched to black. This streamer was first used on Moosehead Lake in Maine and is a good choice for targetting the land locked salmon early in the season.

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
