#92 Piscivore - Darren MacEachern

Tied by: Darren MacEachern
Originated by: Darren MacEachern

Hook: Custom Don Ordes 6xl 1 14/0 shark hook
Thread: Black FWN
Tag: Silver flat tinsel
Body: Black wool
Rib: Silver flat tinsel
Belly: 2 peacock sword feathers tied
Wing: Feather are glued onto a foam template and layered white, yellow, orange and black.
Shoulder: Peacock eye feather
Topping: Peacock herl
Head: Black

Notes: Don had sent me this hook as well as a much larger hook which will require a much larger vise. The 14/0 just fit into the jaws of my Griffin Montana Mongoose and so I had not too much trouble tying this. The hard part was figuring out what to tie on this generously sized hook, and so not having any feathers that would create a suitable wing, I decided to build one. I'm pretty sure that the wing is functional as a fishing streamer, but I don't have a rod big enough to cast something like this. Chuck and duck redefined for me. Happy April 1st.

The March streamers will be auctioned off starting next Sunday April 8th.

Thanks Kelly. It's the biggest thing I've ever tied, and it was a fun challenge. If I had to do it again, I'd make a few changes, but I think this one was the funnest fly to tie.

fantastic fly Darren a wee bit on the small side but a pound of lead should cast that out ok

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
