I am very fortunate to have both my children interested in fly fishing and fly tying. This is a fly I tied after watching my daughter Kaitlin sitting at her tying bench tying with me. As you can imagine being an 8yr old girl, the colors of this fly were inspired by the clothes she wears. Pinks and purples can be as popular with the fish here as it is with the girls. She actually helped me dye both capes these colors using the microwave technique and veniards dyes. These colors fish well in the dark colored waters I live near, so its is not just a tribute fly to my daughter but an effective pattern to fish in the spring and fall during high water.
The Miss Kait construction for me came simple. The Silver is for all the bright things she adds to my day. The black ostrich well lets just say we are glad there is more silver. The blue body is for her rugged tom boy side and love of the outdoors still with the flash of Holo silver like the flash of her smile. The purple polar bear is for the days we share, dwindling in numbers as she grows older. The total package is covered by the pink and purple she loves to wear while the eyes are like hers, focused while learning to tie her own flies.
