Source: Forgotten Flies 1999, Schmookler & Sils - Pg. 445
Hook: Gaelic Supreme Mike Martinek Rangeley streamer hook 6xl #1
Thread: Black
Tail: Barred wood duck
Butt: Black ostrich herl
Body: Flat gold tinsel
Ribbing: Fine gold oval tinsel
Belly: Yellow bucktail
Throat: Yellow hackle fibers
Wing: 4 dark olive hackles
Shoulder: Silver pheasant body
Eye: Jungle cock nail
Head: Black
Notes: The High Roller has some heavy hitting colors when it comes to fishing landlocked salmon. The dark olive color has been a proven choice as seen in several other proven patterns included in the project. The original prototype included peacock herl in the belly and used a marabou wing rather than the hackle wing seen here. The yellow hackle on the throat is a recent addition. Don tells us that the first day he used the High Roller, back in 1998 on the Roach River in Maine, he recorded over a dozen landloacked salmon and several trout. It has consistently been producing happy anglers ever since.
