Scaled Shiner Hairwing Recipe

Hook: Mustad 3665A #2
Thread: Black
Tail: Black hackle fibers
Body: Olive green floss (dressed heavy)
Rib: Diamond wrap black thread
Throat: Red hackle fibers
Wing: Black bear hair
Eyes: Jungle cock nail
Head: Black

Notes: This streamer was originally developed as a feather-wing streamer by Mr. Don Shiner of Nescopeck, Pennsylvania. It was deemed a successful lure for bass. One variation Mr. Shiner used to imitate golden shiner for lake fishing was a gold bodied version of the fly. The gold version should also employ the diamond wrapped tread to give the fly an appearance of scaled. Bob converted the pattern to a hair wing version using black bear hair in the wing. The bear hair has a nice mild wave with dense roots that taper to the tips creating a nice full head that slopes naturally to the tail.

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
