Cameron's Biography

My family owned a cottage in the Eastern Townships of Quebec on the shore of Little Lake Magog. Here I learned how to spin fish off the dock for bass and panfish. At the time I was 9 years old and my grandfather was an avid Atlantic salmon and brook trout fly fisherman. He would take yearly trips to the Gaspe region of Quebec to fish the Matapedia and other rivers. I was introduced to fly fishing by him and my father at a private fishing club they belonged to. One time before one of his salmon trips my grandfather placed some used salmon flies on the table. He asked me to tie them as close as possible to the original. From then on, after taking a few lessons, I have been tying off and on for 35 yrs. Most of my tying has been for my own recreational use but I did tie commercially for a few years at a fishing shop and for some clients as a guide in the Ottawa area. After graduating with a degree in biology and a fish and wildlife technologist diploma, I have worked as an aquatic invertebrate taxonomist in an environmental consulting company.
