Mark,

I have no idea what went wrong in your life or your upbringing, but I don't remember ever having had such a rude and obnoxious comment on the site - and it's been out there for close to 20 years after all.

While I respect your opinion - in spite of your total lack of respect for mine - I have NO respect at all for the way you present it.
You are entitled to your standpoint, and I to mine, and you can defend yours with sensible arguments if you want, but not with some far fetched (and offensive) comparison between my kids and fish. You might compare your children to fish spawned in a cesspool, but I can tell you that mine have bigger brains than fish, more complex reaction patterns than fish and a totally different physiology with regards to pain, fear and a lot of other things.
Comparing hooking a fish to hooking a person is simply stupid.
Having studied biology I happen to know a bit about what I'm talking about, and I'm not the only one. I can recommend reading books like "Does fish feel pain?" by Victoria Braithwaite and "What Trout Want: The Educated Trout and Other Myths" by Bob Wyatt, which shed some light on fish physiology and "psychology".

And sure some of the fish I release have a hole in the lip (no, it's not "ripped"), but fear and loathing of humans? Come on now. Really? Fear, yes, but they are born with fear. Loathing humans? I don't think so.

PS: Fuck you, you moron! But kind regards to your family. They have no part in this.

PPS: At first I had no intentions of publishing your comment - not due to the personal offenses or your opinion - but because of the unnecessary rudeness. But you know what? I decided to do so, and here it is along with my reply.

Regards from a guy who both kills and eats fish

Sure Martin, You are a good guy. A manly man. But a sensitive man, With a true appreciation for Nature and it's gifts
Tell me where your kids live.
I'll come there and throw out an Ebelskiver with a pinched hook and drag them in as quickly as possible and handle them gently after I pull the "PINCHED HOOK" from their unfeeling lips.
Then I will gladly throw them back into the sesspool where you spawned them.
You are so fucking pathetic I can't believe I'm wasting my time on you but you pissed me off with your 10 fucking excusses.
Mark Patton 209-404-8733
p.s. only catch the fucking fish to feed your fucked up starving family
P.P.S. I doubt you have the fish guts to responde to this comment, "BUT IF YOU DO" you will not be throwing ME back with a ripped lip, fear and loathing of humans, a slim chance of survival and a"have a nice day fishy!"

I use a small tube of GE 100% silicon. Any quality 100% silicon will suffice. It dries in 3 to 6 hours. Make the wing VERY sparse. Open the gap on the hook as you flatten the barb for better hooking. I would add more but I am in the Bahamas bonefishing for research on my next article! Work, work, work..........

It's works beautifully! Floats high on the water and very realistic looking. The bodies are super easy to make. Thank you for sharing.

Not too shabby, Martin. I've been tying for about 40 years and--like you--made every mistake in the book. Worked with crap tools for years. I finally got myself a Renzetti about 10 years ago. I ran across one of my old flyboxes a while back. The little aluminum ones with the coil hook holders. I opened it up and found a couple of dozen bare, rusty hooks and a bunch of dry, mummified moth pupae. :p

Kenneth,

As far as I know all the silicone sealant you buy for use in wet rooms such as bathrooms will do fine. Several types are available in stores that supply building materials and materials for plumbing.
Viscosity as well as drying times may vary, like the size of the tubes you can buy. Most sealant come in large containers meant to be used in a "gun" - a so called chaulk gun - but some brands are sold in smaller tubes with screw lids, better suited for flu tying where you use small amounts at a time.

I hope this helps you.

In dentistry there was an initial problem with cures when LED lights were introduced. These light had very narrow cure ranges due to the nanometer wave length of the LED's that were used. Some resin/composite materials did not cure completely. Manufacturers solved this by building lights with an assortment of LED's with varying wavelengths. This widened the curing spectrum, and the lights now work with all materials. I expect that this will happen with fly resins. Some manufacturer will get over will get over his preoccupation with having his own proprietary light and produce a wide spectrum light. With proper advertising, this light will then own the market! All others will be forced to fall into line or fail.
As noted, some materials leave a tacky surface. This is due to the formation of an oxygen inhibited layer on the surface. Alcohol removes it. Sometimes covering the surface with glycerin prior to curing will prevent this. The glycerin can then be washed off, leaving a smooth surface.

I made one on a large Hook and tested it in the waterbassin. It jigs wonderfully and it sparkles like a discobowle. A real great idea. I used XMas lametta for the body and tinsel for the tail. I started to make this fly on tubes now. Even for troutsizes.

How could I get in touch with Scott Murdock to see if I could purchase the set of MacLeod flies?

Since you got this far …

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
