Great fish! In Canada we have a fish that looks almost identical but is more silvery and sometimes brownish. It's called the FALLFISH (Semotilus corporalis). The fish is much smaller than these fish you catch, but I caught one that was in the 1.5lb range and over 15inches which is quite large. They are essentially a carp-like fish, much like this Yellow Fish.

They readily take a fly...Flyfishers find them to be a pest because they attack anything ontop of the water. They can put up a good fight on a 5 weight fly rod and under, even on a 6wt they can be a good fighters.

The fin on their back is almost identical to this Yellow Fish you have in your pictures. The scales on Fallfish are in the same proportion as this fish. The fins are also similarly placed!

If you want to see some pictures of it and other Canadian species of fish I have caught, send me an e-mail. I would love to see some more pictures of the species you have caught in Africa. Even the smallest ones interest me.

Take Care,

==Tom==

'coz sharks aren't fish ;-)))!! They fall into class of CHONDRICHTHYES. Fish belong in OSTEICHTHYES.

Of course this is fly fishing, they use fly rods, fly reels, fly lines and artificial flies tied with fur and feathers to fool the fish, so why would it not be fly fishing?

Feridum:
I think the same like Martin Joergensen., this is still Fly fishing.......just only in little bit different way. Someone like small streams, someone love open sea. If we are using fly (something made from feathers, hair, fur, etc.), cast by fly rod and fly line, for whichever species of fish, its FLY FISHING.
I consider this article like very interesting.

Dear Martin,

For me is FlyFishing = Respect. Respect to the fish and respect to the nature.
An example, if I catch a trout I can see quickly if the fish is pregnant or not. And the (brain) memory of those kind of fishes are short. After releasing those fishes they cannot remember the past and they are not anymore in stress for a long time like sharks, whales and tunas. But after releasing sharks they are swimming hundreds of miles alone without taking a rest. Because of the stress...

Sharks are a species that have low fecundity and a long gestation period. They do not recover so rapidly as fish from decrease in numbers. Many sharks are now threatened and as the numbers drop the effects on the balance in the ocean become clearer. It is important to take steps to help stop shark fishing and help sharks reclaim their populations. Thats why...

Please do not understand me wrong. We are here in GFF Forum for talking and saying our minds.

Best Regards
Feridun

Feridun,

Why not!?

Fishing with a fly on a fly line casting it with a fly rod... if it's not fly fishing what is it then? And why is it less fly fishing than fishing for grayling or bonefish? Is it nicer to put a hook in a trout?

Beautiful subject matter, focus, exposure, etc. The composition would have been perfect if the tail and the reel seat were included (and not cropped out), thus creating a nice frame of grass around the center of interest. I would prefer to see the fish wet myself as well; but what a gorgeous fish!

Hei Frank,

Yes its exactly at Lyngmoenhølen in Zone 3 :)
Its a picture with three stones and a few trees... I am speechless, how could you know that? 8)

I am fishing always between [b:920edc5ff5]H6[/b:920edc5ff5] (Lyngmoenhølen) and [b:920edc5ff5]H7[/b:920edc5ff5] (Fjermedalshølen) in Bjerkreim.

Wiggy and Fly-Only, of course that will be wonderful we can meet and arrange a trip together

As you have disabled your "contact" details, the link "feel free to contact us"and do not show an email address how can I submit an article to you ?

Rain-X?
Look at the bottle - black with yellow printing. This is Rain-X demister, not Rain-X outside windscreen treatment. A different animal!

Hi, Paul,

The rod looks very nice. Is the colour golden plum from CTS? By the way, the grip reminds me on a rod I´ve been building last year. One of my favorite allrounders for the riverfishing, an Sage SLT 690-4. But that´s something total different to the AffinityOne.

T.L. Frank

Hey Frank,

Here is a pic (hopefully) of my last build its a CTS Affinity one 906-4, it is by far the nicest rod that I have ever cast, and a real joy to fish. Its the rod that I use for seatrout fishing in Denmark.

im a 1st timer what line goes on the rod 1st the green rubber 1 or the rope one

Catching sea trout on a cold winter's day when the sun warms the water and there's not a cloud in the sky is just magical. Sea trout fishing is a real joy......

Hi guys. We certainly live not too far from each other, and a meet could certainly be on the cards. Fly-only, I've fished flekkefjord with a collegue that is from and lives in flekkefjordfished. It was sea trout fishing in grisefjorden and up along the canals and into the last lake, that's as far as my flekkefjord fishing goes. A lovely area with some nice fish, not to mention lots of bass.

I'm not sure if this is allowed but do you guys go on www.fiskersiden.no/forum I had a recent trip in the mountains and have written a rapport http://www.fiskersiden.no/forum/index.php?showtopic=38535

My Rain-x bottle has a warning on the back that says, "Do not use on plastics."
This contradicts what Steve Schweitzer says about using this product for dressing fly lines and that it is safe. Are there different types of Rain-x with different chemical make-ups? Mine is a clear liquid of water-like consistency.

Congrats m8, now the next one. I saw one jumping while fishing for seabass and my hart started pumping like grazy and so did my casting arm :) But unfortunatly it wouldn't take my fly.

Hey, Feridun,

is the second picture taken at Lyngmoenhølen? I´ve been fishing there a couple of times this year, esp. the Vinningland-Section as well as Fjermedal, Gjedlakleiva and Nedre Gjedremshølen. Unfortunately the waterleves have been like a stock price the last weeks from total down about 15 q to over 100 and down again. But I like the river, it´s a great nature there.

T.L. Frank

PS: Wiggy and Feridun, it seems that we are neighbours. Hope we find a possibility to meet eachother soon!

Hey, Paul,

Well, until now I just heared good things about the Dan Craft blanks, escpecially about that series. I would be pleased to try that stick, but I guess, I have to be patient till then.

On the other hand I ordered a CTS AffinityOne-blank for a friend a couple of weeks ago.
And I have to say that that blank has an superb strong, fast but sensitive progressive action. I guess I fell for them and it would be ok for me if CTS redefines AffinityOne in S.E.X.Y.
Anyway, I will build up a two-hander from CTS during the winter and looking forward to that experiment.

T.L., Frank

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
