I did not yet tie hundreds of flies with it, but it feels SOOOOO good!

A photo with the motiv in the center rarely scores well, but this one gets;

Scenery = Yes!
Action = Yes!
Depth = Yes!
Sharpness =Yes!

Total = 4

Reminds me of a 1980s ad from a swedish reel manufacturer. You get a 4 for bringing some action to our memories.

Nice scenery. Fishing in the city. The (casting) angler is in the golden spot. You get 4. Get closer/ zoom in at the angler and a 5 would've been possible.

Well composed, beautiful colors and an angler smiling after having caught a piece of crap... erhh, I meen carp. You get 4+.

Phototechnically this will max be a 3. However, having seen your other photo w/ puddle dog I can only imagine how you got the almost marabou-like body material for this "cottonball-fly". You get 4 but just for bringing live fly tying materials to the stream!

Uh-huh, a little spooky but at the same time also idylic.
Tough against the sun shot.
You get 3. The photo is a bit boring as it is. Had there been say a canoo with a couple of anglers in you'd easily gotten a 5. Cut off most of the pine tree in the front and bingo dude made it!

Looks like something out of Robocop!

Does it come with a promise that it will tie better flies that will catch more fish, or promise it will break your bank account?

Anyway, it looks like a character from Robo-cop. "Stay out of trouble"!

Awesome colors. Very sharp.
Dolphy looks down at the "heering" in his mouth and you can almost imagine him saying, "from now on I'll be a vegetarian!"
Dude, you get 6.

Nicolas,

I know that running lines differ, and that they are a matter of personal taste. But since I prefer not using baskets or any such contraptions, I find monofilament lines unsuitable for my personal type of fishing. Your mileage may vary...

Duncan Loop is good, easy and effective, but once it clinches after a strike it has to be redone or you loose about 50% strenght.

Good. But you forgot to mention that running lines can differ in performance depending on where and what you are fishing for. Try using a stripping basket with amnesia and you'll see what I mean. Try using a flyline on a medium sink tip and you loose the object of the mercerize.

Regards,

Hi Vilmos,
Where do you catch pike now ?
I have had very limited success in the canals around Budapest..... any tip would be appreciated.

A "brown" agains "seaweed"/algae correct?
This is something that one never sees in California!
Beautiful!
THANKS!

The fly looks verry realistik. I would like to give it a go to see if it does actually work. I would like to now if you fish this pattern as a dry fly or a wet fly and if you would retreve it or not. I would also like to now is this fly pattern available in tackle shops, what tipe of trout spesyes of trout does it catch.

Thanks Randon,Perhaps you'd like to submit some of your pictures to show us mere mortals how it's really done.

Typical amateur faults when shooting against the sun. Also, the not straight horisont defines this photograph to be a 2. There are programmes available to straighten up the horisont in photographs.
"Retouch" it to be b&w (black and white) and you get 3.
Put an angler in the picture and you're on 4.
Put some action (casting or fish fight) and you hit 5.
Make it a young lady and you're at 6 and the cover of a magazine!

Excellent Article Martin, thoroughly enjoyed. I get up to Machyllynth quite often, fishing for sea trout & salmon in the Dyfi. I also enjoy the River Dysinni that runs from Tal-y-llyn, a lovely little river, similar to a chalk stream, with some lovely Sea Trout!

There is great Saltwater fishing in Towyn, 8 miles from Tal-y-llyn.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
