Christmas is closing in!
You probably noticed. Dutch Zwarte Piet is afoot, Danes drink glögg and the Germans go to Weihnachtsmarkt. Time to buy some presents for your favorite fly fisher!
I have done articles wit good ideas for Christmas presents for the flyfisher before, and I will not repeat that drill. It's hard work researching for new items. The market is overflowing with great gifts for any angler or outdoorsman.
This article on Christmas gifts is from 2012, but will still do fine for some general advice on what to buy and has links to stuff that can still be purchased.
Support GFF
So this year I'm going to do some blatant promotion, and recommend that you order some Global FlyFisher swag from Zazzle. I have long had a handful of GFF branded items on this produce-on-demand-shop, and if you order now, early December, you can get the stuff shipped to most places before Christmas.
You will find posters, bags, mouse pads, T-shirts, water bottles and the most popular item: coffee mugs with classic salmon flies printed on them.
Now, you won't be making me rich if you buy, but you will support GFF with a bit of money, and you will definitely make someone happy. Coffee, tea or hot chocolate – even plain water – just tastes so much better out of one of these mugs!
Buy the mugs here.
Non-GFF gift ideas
If you want to go down another road and buy something not branded, consider these general gift ideas:
For the fly tyer, a grizzly saddle is about the most universal material you can buy. These feathers are used by basically all fly tyers, and if you just make sure you get the proper “grade” for the purpose, there's almost nothing you can do wrong. Check what kind of flies your receiver ties, and make sure you buy for that purpose: saltwater, streamers, wet flies/buggers, dry flies. These saddles aren't cheap, and will definitely be well received.
If you are looking for something a little less expensive, buy tying thread. A few rolls in different colors and thicknesses will be a great and useful gift. You can simply add rolls until your budget is met.
For the person who doesn't tie flies, a pair of good woolly socks or a neck tube (AKA seamless bandana) like the Buff or Hoo Rag is a good idea. All anglers need to stay warm!
Art!
You can also consider supporting one of the many artists that we have featured over the years. Most of them do prints, posters, cards, stickers and various merchandise, and if you really want to be generous, they often offer original artwork too – even commissions, based on your ideas or photos.
Contact them, browse their web sites, check out our many articles, all containing samples and link to places where you can purchase the art.
Leatherware from our friends Remus or Arturas is also something worth considering. Beautiful and very useful.

Since you got this far …
… I have a small favor to ask.
Long story short
Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.
Long story longer
The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
