So the original hatchmaster I believe was tied with a mallard flank feather. However that is just too large, and would create a fly in the 10-14 size range.

So this fly is relatively easy to tie, except for splitting the thread. You really need to use a thread like UTC Ultra Thread which is very flat and splits easily.
