I bumped into the photographer Francisco Bedeschi was in the book Fly Fishing Mexico - the Yucatan Peninsula. The Argentinean photographer had taken most of the pictures for that beautiful book about Mexico's tropical fishing.

In the present book Francisco Bedeschi has taken all the pictures. And what pictures!

It is a stunning and mouth watering experience to let your fingers run through and your eyes run over this book. Not only are the images fantastic, but also the landscapes and rivers they depict are nothing short of amazing. We are on destinations that most fly anglers have heard of and dreamed about, but where only few of us ever get to go: South America, and more precisely in Patagonia, which in this book mean Argentina, but in reality (and in a future volume) also incorporates parts of Chile.

Since I'm an avid sea trout hunter, the southernmost rivers of Patagonia such as the Rio Grande and Rio Gallagos have always stood for me like the Mecca of sea trout fishing: a place I had to visit before departing from this world. This book does nothing to ruin the image - on the opposite!

It meticulously goes through most rivers in the Argentinean Patagonia, describing each in moderate detail and showing you a wealth of pictures from each destination. It covers traditional trout fishing for brownies and rainbows as well as fishing for the larger sea run steelhead and sea trout for which Patagonia is probably most famed.

The text is written by different knowledgeable guides from each region or river and is printed in both Spanish and English. It is not a where-to guidebook as such, and does not list facilities, lodges, guides or similar information in detail for each river, but it does have an extensive list of contact information in the back. Considering the potential difficulty of getting this information through other channels and the distance from most of us to Argentina, this information is very valuable.
Some Argentinean destinations are widely advertised and facilities can be located through catalogs, books, magazines and on the web, but many of the rivers and lodges mentioned in this book are not easy to find through other channels.

As already mentioned the book is lavishly illustrated with Bedeschi's photos along with some nice maps. The pictures alone can sell the book as a coffee table book. The layout is extremely tastefully done by Claudia Lancelotti, and the large format of the book is well exploited. Many of the pictures are even gatefolds, adding further to the impression of the widths of these landscapes. Any angler will love to just slowly let the eyes run over page after page of beautiful pictures of tempting and fascinating fishing destinations.

An excellent book, which can be highly recommended to all anglers, but in particular to those with an affinity towards South America's fishing opportunities.

The publisher has a web site with lots of information from the book and picture samples.

Please tell me how I go about purchasing this book and any others which are beautifully illustrated and are for sale? Is there a catalogue giving this information?

I got one of Bedeschi's other books (Fly fishing Patagonia - The Lake Destrict). This is one of his earlier books in the nice landscape format.

Wonderful pictures (some were cropped from larger pictures so the sharpness is lost sometimes), the writing is mediocre at best. It's definately not the 'How & where to fish' book, but a nice coffee table book to show of to friends why fly fishing is more expensive than playing golf... ;)

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
