Notes: Bill Zimmerman is credited with the creation of the Maynard's Marvel. The Golden Marvel, listed in Stewart and Leeman's "Trolling Flies for Trout and Salmon" notes that it was renamed Golden Marvel from the original name of the Maynard Marvel. In the book there is also an entry for the Maynard Marvel with a different dressing, calling for a wing comprised of golden pheasant crest, blue impala and a mallard flank tied in flatwing style. Under the entry for the Maynard Marvel is this text:
This fly, and the Golden Marvel are both very popular and successful patterns. For some reason, each acquired the name Maynard Marvel. At the suggestion of Jim Warner, I've taken the liberty of renaming one version to Golden Marvel in the hope of avoiding confusion.
Suffice to say, that after 30 years, there is still confusion to the pattern and it's name. The streamer is a beautiful one with it's golden pheasant crest wing, and I much prefer this version over the flatwing version.
