Notes: The Miramichi Special is a popular fly in New Brunswick during the spring salmon runs. While the term "Miramichi Special" also pertains to a flat plywood bottomed river craft, it streamer has won notoriety on it's own among salmon anglers who comb the shores of storied salmon rivers. The fly challenges the likes of the Mickey Finn, Renous Special and Golden Eagle as the goto flies on the Miramichi for seasoned anglers and guides. The pattern is a local one for the Miramichi, so variations are inevitable. Several versions of the fly exist, but most of the recipes lie along the recipe above. The top portion of the wing is constructed from the brown hair of a yellow dyed bucktail which results in a beautiful olive tone.
