Gary Fraser Streamers
Gary has been busy working on a gorgeous set of streamers for the Streamers 365 project, and within his offering is a subset of streamers dedicated to mariners and vessels lost at sea.
The series started off with a fly called the Miss Ally, named after a fishing boat was caught in rough waters on February 17, 2013. Gary had seen the smiling faces of Kaitlin, Joel, Cole, Tyson, And Billy Jack in the media over the weeks following their loss and was inspired to dedicate aa fly to their memory. The ship had a crew of 5 onboard, and Gary has placed 5 peacock herls and 5 ostrich herls in the design to honour the men lost at sea. The fly is tied in the colours of the Miss Alley with the blue belly posing as the water.
After Gary had shared the Miss Ally fly, his thoughts focused on other ship wrecks in the North Atlantic waters. The streamers that followed in the series are a tribute to the men and women that make their livings on the North Atlantic. Some of these fishing boats could easily be seen as works of art and so Gary picked a few and tied a series of "tribute" streamers in the colors of these boats. L'Acadien II Lost March 29, 2008 during a seal hunt off of Cape North, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Andrea Gail, a swordfishing boat out of Gloucester with six hands on board was lost October 30, 1991. A helicopter attached to the CCGS Amundsen crashed in the Arctic on 9 September 2013, with a loss of three lives.
Thanks Gary for sharing your collection.
