Cleaning Wax from Bobbins

Stan Sjursen wites:

Eventually all bobbins pick up enough wax to make threading them difficult or impossible. Moreover, this build up can even increase the tension enough to break the tying thread.

Here's a simple solution shown me by Norm Norlander at a recent Fly fishing Exposition.

Purchase a plastic squeeze glue applicator bottle, the kind with a hollow tube for pinpoint lacquer application. Fill this bottle with a solvent such as lacquer thinner, mineral spirits etc. Now when your bobbin tube becomes clogged simply insert the bottle's tube into your bobbin?s tube and dispense a drop of or two solvent. Work the dispensing tube back and forth a couple of times to thoroughly dissolve the wax then blow out the excess.

Your bobbin will be as clean as new.

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher has recently been updated to a new publishing system, and there may be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
