Brown Forked Tail

No comments yet

Here we will be tying the famous fly Brown Forked Tail by the Olson brothers Don and Dick Olson from Minnesota from around the year 1840 or so. This fly Brown Forked Tail is the real grand father of another fly what came our decades later in the 1930 in Oakland California. There was a guy that tied a fly called Prince, These two patterns share many things in common and they are originally meant to imitate stone flies. Good job on that because both of the pattern work out great. It's also to be seen that the two flies have many things in common and how they are built up. For close to 180 years the Brown Forked Tail has done its job well. I'm also making video on this fly to preserve it and the method I use tying it. I went trough some books and stuff to the pattern tied as it was supposed to by tied. I hope you guys like the results! The BFT is an excellent fly to take when fishing in running water. Works also in still water too. In general it's a great fly and has been put int the same category as the famous Hare's Ear, Prince Nymph, Zug Bug and of course PT. The fly is a great option for both stream and lake fishing. The fly catches both brown trout and arctic char. Simple to tie and totally worth keeping a few in your box when you go fishing.

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
