Claret Bumble

One of the most iconic of the traditional Irish hackled wet flies must be the Claret Bumble. The Bumble-style of flies are dated back to Derbyshire in the 1500’s and used as a dapping fly. Today the style of flies are generally fished as a top or mid dropper in a team of wet flies in the traditional Irish way. We have once again put Håkan Kärsnaser behind the vice to demonstrate this delicate wet fly - one of his favorite wet flies for both still and running water.

I occasionally find Blue Jay feathers but, what would be a good substitute for the Jay feathers?

My guess is that Guinea Fowl dyed blue would do well. The coarser feathers would very likely be able to do what the blue jay fibers do here.
