The Adams is one of those flies that is so iconic, that if you ask anyone, whether they fly fish or not, to draw a fishing fly, they will most likely draw you an Adams. Or at least draw a catskill style fly. See the Adams is a color scheme of a catskill fly. There are many names for different catskill style flies, some have different materials, but many have very similar or exact materials, just change up colors slightly. All of them however are tied in the same basic way, so if you learn how to tie the Adams, you know how to tie all the catskill flies. In fact, given that you use two different color hackles for the Adams fly means that it is a little more difficult than most of the other Catskill flies. So if you learn to tie the Adams from this video, then you will be able to tie most of the catskill dries out there.
The Adams fly is not only iconic and very popular, it is also just as effective today as it was over 100 years ago when it was invented. Im not sure why this particular color combo works so well, but it definitely does. It's like the perfect all around dry fly. If you are not sure what species of mayfly are going to be hatching, it's a good idea to have varying sizes of Adams in your box to match the hatch. I dont go to a river in peak mayfly season without some Adams in the box.
Make sure you check out my sponsor Risen Fly. They have amazing deals on hooks and beads, but also sell some of the best fly rods Ive ever used, and at a price that is very reasonable. With the cost of fly fishing going up every year, it's refreshing to find great quality gear at prices we can all afford. Best off they are offering all of you a discount just for being my subscriber. So go to www.risenfly.com and type in McFly at checkout for 15% off your first order with them.
Also dont forget to pick up one of my fly boxes. I have both magnetic backed and silicone backed, if these sell well I plan on getting more styles as well and maybe even bringing back the shirts that everyone loved years ago. Check out my amazon store front to pick up the boxes. - www.amazon.com/shops/McFlyAngler
