Copper John

No comments yet

Copper Johns are super heavy flies that get you down quickly.  They are perfect for lead flies since they are flashy, attractor patterns and weighted.  Before we started using tunsten beads, copper johns were the heaviest thing that you could fish, and therefor were used widely instead of lead to get your rig down to the fish quickly.  Like many lead flies, these were fished with less weighted flies on the back, generally something more natural looking.

Many state these flies look like stoneflies or mayflies, however I dont think they look like either.  I feel these are more of an attractor pattern that gets the fishes attention.  They come over to inspect the fly, and then either decide to bite it in order to test it out and see what it is, or see the trailing fly behind it and bite that.  Either way, I have caught quite a few nice fish on this fly, or on the rig that this fly lead with.  Great for fishing under an indicator, but you can also fish this euro style as well since it's so heavy.  With all that wire, lead wraps, and a bead on it, this fly does sink extremely fast.

You should all check out my sponsor risen fly, they made the hooks and beads I used today and have some of the best prices for quality hooks and beads you will ever find.  They also sell rods and reels as well, also for some excellent pricing for the quality of gear they offer.  So go to www.risenfly.com and type in McFly at checkout and they will give you 15% off your first order with them.

Also dont forget to pick up one of my fly boxes.  I have both magnetic backed and silicone backed, if these sell well I plan on getting more styles as well and maybe even bringing back the shirts that everyone loved years ago.  Check out my amazon store front to pick up the boxes.  - www.amazon.com/shops/McFlyAngler

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher has recently been updated to a new publishing system, and there may be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
