Gamechanger Fly

No comments yet

The Gamechanger fly was originally created by Blane Chocklett. And since it's been created, it has continued to prove itself time after time, with so many different fish species. Blane took the articulated streamer a step further making multiple spine sections, to create a fly that moves just like a real fish when being stripped in. They look and swim so realistically, I even have a hard time telling it's not a fish in the water when I look at them swimming, and fish have even a harder time. To me, this is one of the best bass flies ever created. You can cover lots of water, similar to fishing a swim bait. But you can also slow it down and twitch it sporadically through the water, enticing even the most shy bass.

As great as Gamechangers are to fish, they are rather difficult and time consuming to tie. This makes them extremely expensive in fly shops. In fact, if a fly shop sells these flies, they most likely will be the most expensive flies in the shop. They are like tying 6 or more flies in one since there are so many spines. The trimming and coloring process is also very time consuming. So most people do not fish them for that reason. They are scared to loose them since they are so expensive. However, once you learn to tie them yourself, the cost drops significantly. Still not cheap to tie, since the spines do cost a fair amount. However, they are rather enjoyable to tie, so even though they take a long time, its well worth your time at the bench, trying new things and getting creative on coloring them up to mimic whatever forage your local bass, or other fish your targeting, are eating.

Most people that are fearful of loosing them, are fishing these with tippet that is too light. I almost always fish these with 12lb or heavier fluorocarbon tippet. Also try not to throw these in too deep of cover, so you dont hang up on tree branches. These are fairly durable flies, and I have been able to fish some for years without them coming apart. I will have to replace the eyes every once in a while, but other than that, they almost never come apart.

These are also very versatile flies. They make what are called micro spines, and also spines that are very long. So you can tie these in a range of sizes. They can also be colored in a variety of different colors to mimic whatever baitfish your target species is foraging. Ive caught so many different types of fish with these. Of course bass, but also trout, catfish, even sunfish (when tied with the micro spine ones). Ive had great luck fishing saltwater fish as well with these like redfish and specks in the gulf.

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
