Goddard Caddis

No comments yet

The Goddard's Caddis was created back in the 60's according to Google, and was made for fishing still water lakes, and skating the fly across the surface. However I find because of its high buoyancy, it does very well as a fast riffles fly also, or even dropping nymphs off the back in a hopper dropper of sorts, I guess it would be a caddis dropper. This fly is not the easiest fly to tie, due to the deer hair body, however once you get the hang of making those bodies, you can whip these out pretty quickly. In fact, if Im tying up a few, I will tie up all the bodies, and then trim them, then hackle them all, making an assembly line of sorts, allowing me to tie them much quicker and fill boxes in just a couple hours.

While you can use a dry fly hook, I recommend a nymph hook because it will allow you to pull a bit harder on the thread and not bend the hook. Also a heavier hook means more pulling power on fish, keeping you from bending hooks as often on those big trout. Since this is such a buoyant fly, it can handle a heavier hook, and in fact I find it will help with insuring this lands correctly, and not upside down or sideways. That extra weight in the hook bend keeps the fly in the correct position almost like an anchor.

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
