The Leadwing Coachman is a classic English wet fly pattern, attributed to Tom Bosworth, an English coachman to British monarchs in the 19th century. It is known for its dark, mallard-feather wings and a peacock herl body, a versatile design for imitating emerging insects like mayflies and caddisflies and is a great fly for beginners to practice tying matched wings. Originally the wing calls for Brown Mallard quill-wing, but in this video Håkan Karsnäser will do the demostration using the grey quill-wing from an Eurasian Jay. The Leadwing is a darker, winged version of the original Coachman fly.
