Hares Ear's are a much loved pattern utilised by both river and Stillwater anglers alike. This one is for the river and although tied on the large side in this video it works much better in #14 an #16 but for demonstration purposes the bigger size is better. I think that many river anglers here in Europe have become a little preoccupied with weighted flies incorporating a tungsten bead or a a lead wrapped underbody. There can be no disputing their effectiveness.
Every now and then though an unweighted fly gently descending through the layers can prove irresistible to trout and grayling. The addition of a little shine in this fly adds an added attraction to the pattern.
