Help wanted

The Global FlyFisher is in dire need of new and fresh content, and you can help! This article explains why - and what you can do.

This is a recurring situation. Every now and then the publishing rate on this site goes down, and sometimes it even comes to a grinding halt.
That has a very simple reason, which is the bottleneck who is writing these words, namely me, Martin Joergensen, the primary contributor, writer, editor, developer and driving force behind the site.

When life kicks in, I have to spend time on other things such as cooking, baking, cleaning the house, visiting family and friends - not to mention doing paid work to make ends meet.
During those busy periods something has to yield, and how little I may like it, it’s often GFF. A lot of people contribute to the site, and I do get content ever so often. And right now I do have articles in the pipeline waiting for the final touch, waiting for some pictures to be shot, waiting for a step-by-step to be produced, but most of these require more time than I have or perhaps they depend on something coming from the outside, which hasn’t arrived.

What I need is “turnkey” articles. In other words well written, lushly illustrated and almost-ready-to-publish content. A lot of the fly anglers and fly tyers who have delivered material to me have been able to live up to these demands, and now and then I find things posted on social media, which with a permission from the poster can be turned into really good content with very little work.
This is in other words material that has already been produced: the pictures have been shot and edited, the text is written, materials for a pattern has been listed and altogether it’s almost just a question of me copying and pasting and pressing “publish”.
But finding these nuggets isn’t an easy task, and that’s where I need your help.

Have you seen – or indeed produced – content on social media, in club magazines, to use in tying, rod building or casting classes… anywhere but on other web sites… that could fit the above description, then it might be worth considering sharing it with the large and very appreciative audience here on GFF. I do not want to republish content from other sites. Not unless it’s in a non-English language and gets translated.
It could be a pattern, a tying technique, a story from a great fishing trip, hints and tips, a dozen of fantastic pictures with a common subject or whatever you might find interesting – and the rest of the GFF crowd might find interesting too.

The scope is really wide here, and I’m very open to all kinds of strange ideas as well as more traditional types of articles. Nothing is too bland (almost), and just a few images of your favorite fly along with a list of materials and some words on how to tie and fish it can be a smash hit on this site.
If you’re a book author you might consider a bit of free advertising as described here, or if you make videos, consider submitting them to the GFF video channel. You can also review your favorite book, tying tool and some neat piece of gear you own. Or maybe teach people how to make stuff themselves or just show us how you make your DIY projects – amateur or professional.
In other words: bring it on! Send me your manuscripts, photos and illustrations, and I will add your name to the long list of contributors who have helped making this site what it is during the past 25 years.

I won't (and can't) pay you. No one - including myself - have ever earned a dime on contributing to the Global FlyFisher. It's basically expenses only to run a site like this, and even though most of my costs have been covered the latest years, I have shelled out more money than I want to think about on servers, hosting and gear to run the site for so long. So there's no money in this. I will gladly promote your business a bit, link to your site, blog, video channel, Instagram profile or whatnot and add an author's profile for you. And I'll be very thankful. But there's no money involved no matter if you're a pro or an amateur.

The GFF money box

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
