I am in agreement with Ralph 100% ..
One of my fishing buddies has been using this technique exclusively since the early fall, and although on more than one occasion he has been the only one to land fish, I find the technique Neanderthalic .....

I have tried it, and yes, it lands fish ...... *yawn* ...........
It is as comparable to me as angling or float fishing - a stick and a string, with a worm at one end and a fool at the other .......

Fly fishing is an experience of the senses, a serenity of the mind ..

"Fly fishing is for those who hold that the fun in the race of life is in the running, not just the winning, that existence is its own justification, that a day spent in a stream or a pond with a goal in mind is a joy even if the goal is not achieved."
~by Jon Margolis and Jeff MacNelly, How to Fool Fish with Feathers

If you're fly fishing as though you are 'in a contest', and the only objective is to 'catch fish' - you are missing the point .... and that is disappointing .............

I would love to see a video version. I am not a fly maker, but this lure is my wake up call. It is a genius idea. Well done.

You "got it" Mark. Thanks for taking the time to watch. The movie was a risk when we began, as we wanted to see another side of the sport and how the two worlds intersect in their passions. When those passions emerge along the way we enjoyed documenting them (see also Bobby's diatribe during credits at end :-). It was sort of conceived at the speed of a snowy afternoon with the DVD in and a little time to unfurl - and for bass, big and small to excite us - in a state where many of us have never cast a line. And if Larry catches one bigger than that 17 lb'er, I hope I am there!

Sensacional muito bom, uma produção perfeita, é tipo de vídeo que a gente quer ver mais.

Sensational very good, a perfect production, it's kind of video we want to see more.

Gustavo,,

The service I use (Blurb) doesn't yet support e-publishing, but I think they have plans to do so. As it is right now they don't allow any kind of export in PDF or other electronic formats (unless it's littered with huge watermarks), so for now it's a no-go, unfortunately.

Kasper,
I normally do not use the net to peruse flyfishing, preferring the print media, but due to a recent shoulder injury I have had unwanted down time, and, seeking reference to a fly pattern accidentely came upon your site. Well done I say! I am interested in all things flyfishing and your site sparked my interest. I find it thorough to extreme, with wonderful photography, great all 'round information, and very unselfserving, which I appreciate. Keep up the great work!
Gregg

Ray,

Click on the image to go to the article and look in the fact box, which closes it. It tells you facts... amongst other things a bit about licenses.

Are these blanks available for those of us who want to build our own? i have had blanks from you in the past and have been very pleased. Thanks

Jarivs...(Jarvis, maybe?),

Come down to Alberta? Well, I'd have to be pretty far north to come down to you... Looking on a map, I actually am further north than you! But any particular reason you want me to come? And does it have anything to do with the article?

Confused in Denmark.

Hello Henk,
Great article on twined/furled leaders. It works great with some of the braids like spiderwire fusion as well. The specific density is around .95 (which keeps it afloat a long time). I also like the stiffness of the furled braids because of the very positive energy transfer for hooks, curves, etc.. in casting. They help to eliminate micro drag too because of the stiffness. I used to to do several using uni threads which are great for the right circumstances. Just curious if you or many around you are playing around with spectra, dyneema, or kevlar braids? Thanks in advance. Mac

Bob,
I enjoy your articles at Global Fly Fisher and wanted to ask your advice about tying vises. I tie flies for Lake Erie Steelhead; mainly eggs, buggers, and streamers. I've been using a Regal knock off for several years now, and would like to upgrade to a better vise. I would like to ask what you would recommend for a vise. Also, how important is a rotary function? I guess a rotary may help me tie bodies on the buggers and streamers, but probably not on the eggs or nymphs. Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you,
Don Polick

Great Dourado fishing images. Dourado is really very famous in south america.
You guys should look for dourado fishing in Argentina. There are even bigger dourado on the rivers there.
But we use some different technics to catch them. Try serching for "pescaria de corrico" at youtube so you can see what it's all about.
Sorry for bad english. It's not my language.

Denny,

The hook is actually a carp hook named 60500 BLN. You can find it in Mustad's catalog, and it should be available from Mustad dealers. You can contact Mustad to inquire about local dealers or search the web for online shops.

Martin

Jack,

Welcome to the GFF forum! We're glad to have you here. It's not the busiest place on the web, but feel free to join in anyway.

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
