I would think dunking the bird in hot water or any water would ruin the feathers for selling or using for making ties. Can you still dunk the bird in hot water to loosen the feathers and then use the feathers?

I have made these for a while as well. One touch that I add is after I get the pieces assembled, I will lightly sand the parts, and clean them well. Then I will spray the tube with a can of spray-on bedliner bought from AdvanceAuto. I will do a few coats, and increase my distance from the tube on the 2nd or 3rd coat to add more texture. It creates a very tough finish and has lasted me quite a while.

[i:858a432783]gentlemen..I'm new to Ur forum, however, you should look at this ..it will solve all the problems concerning colour fade, the name of the product is .."Clear Cure Goo"..and because I live out west in Canada the place to get this is.

..I make at lot flies using this product, it comes in several ways..thick or thin, and the thin absorbs into what ever material you put it on, then under a UV light for 3-10 seconds and it is done. You owe it to yourselves to check it out...........AW[/i:858a432783]

I agree with you Martin. I have a video that I bought earlier in 2010 that I just couldn't finish watching it. It was that irritating! The frenetic music that didn't match the scene, the slow motion, the sppeded up motion, the choppy cinematography, the grainy scenes...it was just a hodge-podge of junk the inhibited the pleasure of the film. The old adage of, "Just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you should do it" applied to that film.

I even wrote the maker of that film to sound off my displeasure. That same maker made a really nice film to! I told them that they should stick to a recipe that works instead of gagging-up their video with junk that detracts from the film.

But alas, I guess that's what a lot of folks want....so they give it to them.

I think a lot of these new generation outdoor cinematographers are trying to copy/mimic Warren Miller films. Lots of luck with that! As good as Miller's films are, I can't watch more than one at a time. They to wear on ones sensory overload.

Kelly Galloup has revised a form of fishing that works on big fish some of my biggest fish where caught with streamers, love his simplictic approach to fishing/tying, @Jan I don't like weighting my flies unless the water is super high instead prefer using a sink tip or ful sinking line with a loop knot for better action.

Steve, every once in blue moon someone designs a winner; this is one for the history books and has led me to designing 'profile', flies not too dissimilar to yours and equally successful. Congratulations.

Good article. I would like to express my opinion because I am from Czech Republic and currently I live in Ireland so I believe that I know "both sides".
I agree with opinion that Czech Nymphing is not graceful fly fishing. Personally I love dry fly fishing and I am happy I can use dry flies almost whole season in Ireland. During two years I used Czech nymph only several times mainly for perch fishing in high water. (I also improved my casting in this two years more than in ten years of fly fishing in Czech rep)
On the other hand this "technique" was invented in country where fish do not raise so easy as in England, Scotland or Ireland. In Czech Rep. there are lot of trout rivers where fish feed whole year close to bottom and is necessary to get flies deep to catch something.
Czech Nymphing is very effective and could be abused (like almost everything) so I agree with ban of it on some rivers but still from my point of view it is more sport method than worm fishing or dapping the natural mayfly (that is considered as sport method in Ireland).
This technique allows fishing when other ones does not work like high water so it worth to try and learn ( and have several Bobeshs in fly box)

Martin, have you already tried Sporfish.co.uk? They have BugBond for a reasonable price on stock.

Pete,

How could anyone get sick and tired of your nice flies? Please continue! I'm keeping and eye out, and I think we might have another article coming up with variatons over the Welded Phly!

Happy New Year to you too, Martin. GFF is really good website and it's always very interesting to read new articles or refresh the old stuff. It would be great to here more podcasts, hope you'll have some energy for it :) Tight lines!

Rasmus,

I was the one who did the podcasts, and even though they were a lot of fun to do, it was also a lot of work. I have considered taking it up again once the season starts, but my energy levels aren't quite what they used to be, so no promises...

Martin

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
