hello Mirko,

my reply was long ago and obtained to the GFO summit last year.
At the moment there is no need for searching a driving partner, but that does not mean,
that I'm not interested in finding some new fishing partners.

Maybe we can find together on some upcoming trips, but not to Fehmarn!
My hole yourney from frankfurt is long and in most times I accept two hours more for driving directly to fyn or als.

For the next time no bigger trip is planned, because I'm having less private time.
I think my first trip to the north will be about eastern and till then I will be lucky when I catch some good pikes or something else in my local rivers Main and Kinzig.
If you are interested in sharing my next trip, yust let me know and I will contact you.

Tight lines
Florian

Hi Wiggy,

where "up in the mountains" do you live? Maybe i have been there :?:

My last stand for Mandal FF was in Eikerapen, a ski camp. There is a very big lake and i catched a lot of good brownies near the Skjerka electricity. Its fine to have a belly boat on this lake.
But be careful while evening driving, there are a lot of elks coming to drink :o

There's big pike around Grimstad. This summer there was caught a new unconfirmed record pike of 18kg from Rorevatnet. This is quite a popular place for pike FF and it's stuffed full of pike!

As regards arctic char in that area, well I've no idea. I'm best known in this area of Norway and up in the mountains where I work.

@Ostsee-Silber: YEAH ! Kvitsøyfjorden is my Favorit Place LOL!!! and Kvernevik :D

@Dada: ABANT is near City "BOLU" is far 100 km from Ankara. Antalya between Ankara 300 km. I can give you more informations, you need only a #7/8 class Rod and you can catch every fish in Turkey. There is sooo many places :)
What kind of fishes are u interrested? tell me so i can give you more details and direction

I envy you guys in several ways:

- I didn't catch my first fish this year yet. Haven't even fished actually...
- I've rarely seen such huge bones. Dare I ask where they were caught? Hawaii?
- I wish I had sunfish and bluegill in my back yard. I'd be out there every day with a small rod.

Happy new year!

Martin

Hi again keld.
I was just thinking about the shutter/exposuretime does it mean 1/53 of a second?
i think my eos 350 would have made a rather dark picture with the iso at 80?
Or am i missing something?

Hi Allan.

Thanks for the nice words !

The picture was taken on a cloudy day, that's why the colours are so natural, and almost no shadows appeared.

great picture keld.
Beautifull colors.

was there a lot of light the day the photo was taken?

regards Allan

My first fish of the year was a handsome male Bluegill taken on a soft hackle. I can't imagine a better fly for sunfish. My second was a Largemouth Bass.

Great reading, This is a book i have been after for along time, and after reading this article makes more determend to get a copy, but so far been unable to find a copy in the uk, CAN YOU HELP. I know it was reprinted in 1986 by Charles Bllack.d

Hello there,
in our country carp is fish number one, so they introduce this fish too much to our rivers and lakes! They are everywhere! But its still not to easy to get them on fly, like Esox wrote: Messy, dirty small nymphs, very small streamers and buzzers. In rivers we fish for them with short nymph and its luck to catch them somewherein a school and fight im streams is very hard! But in still watters or slow parts of rivers a lot of guyes here fish for them nearly like for a rainbows!!! And there is picture form czech tiyer and he named this fly somethink like a carp killer.......

When I posted this topic, I was just hoping that Ill find somebody who has beeen there or who is from there!!!! Thanks you very much, Feridun!!!! Could you tell me more? Or send some pictures? Bacause Iam any information will be great! Or you ll go with us  ! So could you tell me more about Abant lake??Is there safe? How far is it from Antalia or Ankara? Thank you so much!!
Best regards Dalibor

I posted on the flyforums regarding this trip, but no reply........

Hopefully I can get over and get distantstreams to steer me towards the monsters :D

That would be nice, thank you!

My biggest trout from norway was 3 kilo, catched 2003 on the isle Bømlo at the west coast. The boat was for repair so I had to use a spinning rod - sorry

The best "pattern" was a Mepps, again sorry for the ugly ugly, but it worked well  Maybe somebody have an idea to tie this colours into a trout streamer?

Wiggy, I heared from some arctic char at the region Birkeland, Arendal, but nothing special yet. Pike and perch too, I must try it out.

...something like that...?...

I dont have golden pearls, but some different brown. Instead of the poly material i used saltwater yak hair in this fly. Trying again

My killer perch fly is:-

Thread - Black
Tail - Pink Marabou
Body - black cactus chenille
Eye - Silver chain

As simple as that. Catches me perch in bucket loads!

Great fly, though I'm wondering if I could get permission from yourself to change the silver/transparent beads for gold transparent beads, it would represent a small brownie perfectly.

Back to the tying table........

Nice raggie, I use the same prinicpal for lugs, but just use olive instead of orange, and obviously make it a bit fatter.

Haven't caught anything on it yet, but the arrival of a new daughter during the lug swimming season maybe had something to do with it

Yeah, sounds like a good plan.

And if you're down this way, drop me a line and I can guide you to the big one's

So have you had any big ones recently. I've had loads of 500g and the biggest around 1.3kg. There was a 3kg sea trout caught about an hour after I had fished the same place, typical!

This year I'm starting a guiding service, so if you would like any guiding let me know.

During the winter I SWFF mostly sea trout and cod, then in the spring it's trout in the lowland and as it warms up I start fishing in the mountains. The obviously salmon fishing during the season. I'm lucky ebough to be married to a norweigan girl who's family owns some of the Mandalselva, so I fish for free!

If you like trout, I can recommend you have a day with me. I've discovered some lakes where the average size is roughly 1kg and upto 2-3kg both brown trout and brook trout. The biggest that was caught this year in a net was 7kg! and that's a brownie.

Otherwise I'm currently finding out about the arctic char in the area.

As regards the SWFF, cod fishing is best during the winter/spring. Now the sea is full of them, almost a hassle as they take the fly before the sea trout do!

I'm not really well known in Tovdalselva, but from Søgne to lindesnes, I'm very well known.

If you want anymore tips, just ask.

Since you got this far …

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
