Jason Bordash
US artist Jason Bordash works as an electrical designer, but paints beautiful fishing scenes, fish and flies in his spare time. We asked him a few questions.
Jason reached out to me regarding an article about his art in the series “Fishy Artists”. It didn't take me many seconds on his web site to realize that he was a perfect participant in the series, and I sent off my usual series of questions to him. He kindly replied and sent me a handful of samples of his art.
a) How did you start working with art and with fishing related art in particular?
It started when I was young, around 2nd or 3rd grade with colored pencils, at first my main subject was birds, than animals related to North American hunting. Close to being a young teenager, my grandfather introduced me to fishing, particularly with trout. It has never been the same since.
b) Why fish and fishing?
I cannot explain one or the other, I have a passion for both, to which they both feed and grow together. I am not sure if one would exist without the other.
c) What is your preferred method of painting/drawing/producing your art - if any?
I feel using my own photo is the best method to create a realistic painting, I can take the painting full circle. I do create paintings without using photos, using this process, I create many thumbnail pencil sketches, then put the subject matter together before I get the brushes wet.
d) Is the art your main source of income - if at all a source of income - and do you do other jobs as a supplement?
My main source of income is as an electrical designer. My 9 to 5 career also serves a major role to my career as an artist, attention to detail has helped me create better paintings.
e) Can people buy your art and if so, then in which form and where?
My artwork is available on Facebook from my artist page: JBs Water on Cotton.
My website is another place my art can be purchased.
f) Where do you currently live and work?
Puget Sound Region of Washington State.

Since you got this far …
… I have a small favor to ask.
Long story short
Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.
Long story longer
The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
